Working Together for Success

Breastfeeding can be incredibly rewarding and bonding for both mother and child, but there are many common challenges mother and baby may face. The Breastfeeding Medicine Center offers compassionate guidance to help families address these challenges and reach their breastfeeding goals.

We care for both mother and baby as our patients to achieve successful breastfeeding. Our breastfeeding specialist, Dr. Elizabeth Rose, works solely with nursing mothers and babies and encourages collaboration with the family’s own pediatric and maternal care providers.

Caring for Mothers and Babies

While breastfeeding is recommended as optimal for infant and maternal health, many families face challenges to success.

Common concerns include:

  • Latch difficulty
  • Infant slow weight gain
  • Tongue-tie assessment and frenotomy
  • Low milk production
  • Oversupply
  • Nipple pain or injury
  • Breast and nipple infections
  • Ductal obstruction (plugged milk ducts)
  • Engorgement
  • Prematurity
  • Twins/multiples
  • Weaning
  • Breastfeeding following maternal breast surgery
  • Pumping
  • Returning to work

The Breastfeeding Medicine Center works with mother and baby to identify concerns, create a personalized care plan, and follow up for positive lactation outcomes.
